Even though Tones opened the scoring straight from the throw in, Colmcilles dominated the scoring stakes for much of the first half and led by 0 06 to 0 02 with 20 minutes played. Tones gradually got a foothold in the game and took advantage of a black card to Colmcilles Ben Brennan to hit three points before the interval courtesy of the O Reilly brothers, Thomas (2) and Niall (1). Tones were a different team after the interval and hit five points without reply, three from Stephen Sheppard added to two frees from Thomas o Reilly. A David Bell free gave the Seasiders a temporary respite before Thomas O Reilly scored his sixth point of the day added to a fine finish to the net from Stephen Sheppard.
In a collective team effort Sheppard’s contribution of 1 03 in this period was significant. Tones now led 1 11 to 0 07. St Colmcilles didn’t give up and created a good goal chance which dribbled wide of the post before Tones keeper Ciarán O Gallachóir saved a David Bell penalty. ‘Cilles added three points while Tones Oisin Martin rounded off the winners scoring when opting to fist over the bar when through on goal.
Next up for Tones are Seneschalstown while St Colmcilles, with an outside chance of advancing to the quarter finals, face Skryne.
