Na Fianna's Shane Walsh

Na Fianna 0-16 Dunboyne 1-10

The Na Fianna senior footballers made it 2 wins from 2 as they recorded a 3 point victory over St.Peter’s Dunboyne in Kilcloon.

Dunboyne started the stronger of the two sides and found themselves 5 points to 2 ahead as they kicked a number of frees in the opening minutes.

Na Fianna looked sluggish early on and struggled to make contact with the Dunboyne players running from deep off the shoulder.

However they kicked into gear in the second quarter, adding on points from Daniel Queeney and Luke Kelly while Shane Walsh pointed 2 frees.

A late mark from Dunboyne left the half time score at Na Fianna 0-7 Dunboyne 0-8. Na Fianna would have been somewhat content with this given their slow start.

Na Fianna exploded out of the blocks in the second half as they kicked 5 unanswered scores. This was largely due to an effective press on the Dunboyne kickout as they forced Cian Flynn to kick long and swept up any breaking ball.

Dunboyne then got themselves right back into the game when a free from the left hand side dropped in around the goal area. Shane Geraghty pulled off a fine save however a Dunboyne man reacted first to the loose ball which left the score Na Fianna 0-12 Dunboyne 1-08.

This fortuitous goal did not phase Na Fianna however as they continued in a similar fashion. Shane Walsh kicked a free before Sean Rafferty made another one of his trademark storming runs up the pitch and gave the ball to Walsh who once again pointed.

Na Fianna looked composed from here on in as substitute Sean McDonnell slotted calmly between the posts and Walsh once again pointed, this time from a free.

This left the men in black and yellow 4 points ahead as the clock read 60 mins. The referee played a number of minutes of additional time, during which Dunboyne kicked a solitary score from a placed ball.

This left the full time score as Na Fianna 0-16 Dunboyne 1-10. Na Fianna will be very happy with an excellent performance and result. They have now qualified for a quarter final, but first, play Summerhill in Round 3 in 2 weeks time.
