Caolan Mooney is hoping to return to action next summer after undergoing ACL surgery yesterday.
That means the 30-year-old RGU Downpatrick player is unlikely to feature for Down in 2023 under new manager Conor Laverty.
Mooney was one of a number of players who left the Mourne County panel after this year's Ulster SFC loss to Monaghan in Clones. He later claimed in an interview with Colm Parkinson's Smaller Fish podcast that Down "went backwards" under former manager James McCartan.
TweetACL reconstruction ✅ now the road to get back on the pitch starts now, looking forward to the bumpy road it’s going to lead me on. #june2023😅 pic.twitter.com/vuUmjcsj4w
