Trim announced their return to senior ranks by hammering Navan O'Mahonys in the second fixture on Sunday's Pairc Tailteann SFC double-header

Trim .................. 6-13
O'Mahonys ..........1-14

Kevin Reilly's men were too fit and too strong for the Brews Hill outfit who never looked like causing an upset here.

Trim's resilience was tested a bit early as Darren Fay's charges rallied from six points down in the opening quarter to be on level terms by the 20th minute.

Darragh Maguire's goal owed much to persistence as he cut in along the endline near the goal close to the hospital. That left it 1-4-each. However, Trim responded with goals from Rob Bourke and Mikey Cullen to lead by 3-7 to 1-5 at half-time.

Trim looked set to double their eight-point interval advantage but were hampered by ten wides overall. O'Mahonys scored 1-4 between the tenth and 20th minutes but never looked like making a real contest here.

Within seconds of the restart Aaron Lynch goaled from close range having had his initial attempt blocked by Darragh Murphy.

Jake Regan's points kept the O'Mahonys' side of the scoreboard ticking over. His nine-point haul included a couple of peaches from play including a 47th minute effort that left it 4-10 to 1-9.

Goals from Eoin O'Connor and James Toher completed Trim's goal haul. O'Connor's goal was a deft finish after his initial effort was kept out.

Regan might have had a second O'Mahonys' goal but his deft effort was turned over his own bar by Trim 'keeper Peter Farrell.

On this display, Trim look good for the business end of the championship. However, a sterner test of their credentials is required to assess how far they can go. After all they conceded 1-14 to the side that contested last year's relegation decider.

For O'Mahonys retaining senior status is the goal and on this evidence they have a lot to do to achieve that.
