Cork have moved quickly to fill their senior hurling manager vacancy.

At tonight's county board meeting in Páirc Uí Chaoimh, Pat Ryan will be proposed for ratification, just 48 hours after Kieran Kingston stepped down from the role. Ryan was always going to be a strong contender after managing the Rebels to back-to-back All-Ireland U20 titles in 2020 and '21.

An All-Ireland SHC winner in 1999 and also the holder of Munster SHC, All-Ireland U21 and National League medals, the Sarsfields clubman was previously involved with the Cork seniors in 2016 and '17 when he served as a coach during Kingston's first spell as manager.

He also won two Cork SHC titles as a player (2008 and 2010) and as a manager (2012 and 2014) of Sarsfields.

Welcoming the appointment, Cork chairman Marc Sheehan said: “We are thrilled to have someone of Pat’s calibre so ready to take up the significant mantle of Cork senior hurling manager.

"Having seen his management and coaching skills with our teams previously, I have no doubt that the development of our players is in safe hands.”

Cork GAA CEO Kevin O’Donovan said Ryan's appointment was “another clear example of our desire to provide a pathway to managers and coaches through both club and county systems. His record in both arenas speaks for itself, and we look forward to him building on the significant work completed by the outgoing management team in the ongoing pursuit of Liam MacCarthy.”
