Former Tipperary goalkeeper Brendan Cummins says Clare’s composure under pressure can stand to them against Kilkenny in Saturday week’s All-Ireland SHC semi-final.

The Banner men delivered an unaswered 1-5 in the closing 10 minutes against Wexford in Thurles to get over the line after Lee Chin had left them on the verge of elimination with two quickfire goals.

Brian Lohan’s men never panicked against the Slaneysiders though and Cummins says that kind of resilience could prove key against the Cats in 10 days’ time at Croke Park.

"If you're six points better and you’re only two points up… that is going to be the challenge for Clare,” he told the RTE GAA Podcast.

"The very minute Galway got on top (in the Leinster final), TJ (Reid) was under the next two puck-outs, caught the two of them and got fouled. It's a key thing for Kilkenny that they can take pressure and draw frees.

"But the last day, even when they (Clare) went six down, there was no panic and they kept playing. In fairness to Brian Lohan, he wasn’t jumping up and down and pressing any red buttons.

"They just did their thing and I think that will stand them in good stead against Kilkenny."
