Derry have dumped reigning All-Ireland champions Tyrone out of the Ulster SFC with a fully deserved 1-18 to 0-10 victory to book their place in the Anglo-Celt Cup semi-finals against Monaghan on May 15.

The holders, who finished with 13-men following the sending offs of Brian Kennedy and Conor McKenna, were never really at the races in front of an attendance of 10,155 at O'Neills Healy Park this afternoon and looked a beaten docket when they trailed by seven points (1-8 to 0-4) at half-time.

Rory Gallagher's side produced a dominant performance from start to finish in Omagh to earn their first championship win over their neighbours since 2006.

Early points by Conor Doherty and Niall Loughlin sent Gallagher's men two clear inside 11 minutes, Cathal McShane replied for Tyrone, but Benny Heron, Doherty and Gareth McKinless ensured that the visitors remained in front.

Disaster struck for the Red Hands on 25 minutes when referee Paddy Neilan brandished a red card to Kennedy after the All-Star midfielder kicked out at McKinless in frustration.

Moments later, Paul Cassidy was hauled down by Tyrone goalkeeper Niall Morgan, resulting in the awarding of a penalty which was brilliantly tucked away by Shane McGuigan.

A McGuigan free then made it a seven-point game at half-time (1-8 to 0-4), and Heron, Loughlin and McGuigan added further scores on the restart to put the game well beyond Tyrone's reach.

McKenna joined Kennedy on the sideline after a second yellow card near the end.
