Offaly manager John Maughan isn’t taking anything for granted ahead of Sunday’s Leinster SFC opener against Wexford at Chadwicks Wexford Park.
A home quarter-final against 11-in-a-row Leinster champions Dublin just six days later on Saturday week is the prize on offer for the winner. However, Maughan insists that his team isn’t looking beyond this weekend’s game against opponents who finished third from bottom in Division 4 of the Allianz League, but can be notoriously difficult to beat on home soil.
“I would never disrespect any team,” he stressed to the Offaly Topic.
“It’s going to be a dogfight. Wexford made it very difficult for Dublin in the first round of last year’s championship and are formidable at home. League positions go out the window in the championship. I’ve been involved in a lot of upsets over the years, so there is no way I’ll be underestimating Wexford.
“It’ll be a huge test; a tough battle for us.”
