A GoFundMe page has been set up for a GAA player from Derry who was left in an induced coma after being hit by a car in the US.

Steelstown clubman Patrick Brennan is said to be 'stable' condition after undergoing a number of life-saving operations. He is due to have major leg surgery today at the Inland Valley Medical Centre in Wildomar, California before having a brain scan.

Patrick's adopted GAA club, the LA Cougars, set up the GoFundMe page which has already raised over $65,000 to help him with his recovery.

The club posted the following update on his condition yesterday: "Paddy and his family are clearly very loved and it has been so heartwarming to see so many communities activate and rally to their aid so quickly. Together, we have provided a strong security blanket to Paddy and his family in their time of need.

"The latest on Paddy's condition is that for the last three days he's been a lot more settled and stable. He has major leg surgery scheduled for tomorrow so keep him in your thoughts and cross all your fingers and toes!

"If all goes well, the next step will be to get him into the MRI machine for a closer look at that big ole brain of his where we're all hoping he's given the all-clear but we need to be and are prepared for any outcome."
