Kerry dismantled Mayo with a superb display at Croke Park this afternoon to collect a 23rd National Football League crown.
It finished 3-19 to 0-13 in the Kingdom’s favour at headquarters, where Gavin White, David Clifford and Jason Foley banged in the goals to help ensure their side’s comfortable success.
Clifford, in particular, was in sensational form for the Munster champions registering 1-6 on an occasion that marker Padraig O’Hora will want to forget.
Jack O’Connor’s men were in control from the moment wing-back White hit Mayo’s net on 24 minutes as they’d kick on to lead by 1-10 to 0-7 at the break, with goalkeeper Shane Ryan’s exceptional free from the sideline closing the scoring for the half.
Michael Plunkett and Paul Geaney (free) traded points early in the restart and Kerry got motoring again midway through the second-half when points from Clifford (3), Geaney and Adrian Spillane created a 10-point gap.
The game was well a truly put to bed when captain Clifford cut in from the left flank, dashed past O’Hora and provided a cool finish to the Connacht champions’ net.
Foley added the Kingdom’s third goal in the late stages on a day where the only positive for Mayo boss James Horan will have been the return of ace attacker Cillian O’Connor who made his first appearance since last summer for the Westerners as a 55th minute substitute.
