Kildare are through to the second round of the Leinster U20 hurling championship after an impressive 1-18 to 1-12 win over Meath in Navan yesterday.
The visitors fired over the first eight points, with Fionn Maher on-song, to take control of the contest and they hit the net with five minutes to go in the first-half to take in a 1-11 to 0-4 lead at the break.
James Murray registered six points in the first 10 minutes of the restart for Meath and Joey Cole grabbed a late goal, but it still left the Royals six short as they bowed out.
In Parnell Park, Laois were comfortable in their 3-21 to 0-12 rout of Antrim.
Having led by 0-9 to 0-6 at the half, the O’Moore turned on the style in the second-half and got goals via James Duggan and Noah Quinlan (2) to advance comfortably through to the next round.
Westmeath were also comfortable in a 2-18 to 1-13 win over Carlow at Netwatch Cullen Park.
It marked a great day for the Lake County, with its minor footballers having defeated Louth (1-12 to 0-11) in their Leinster championship clash and the senior hurlers clinching the Division 2A league title (and promotion) with a 5-19 to 1-17 win over Down.
