Westmeath, Meath and Down were the victors on the opening day of action in the Allianz Hurling League Division 2A.
After capturing the Kehoe Cup, Westmeath continued their fine start to 2022 under new manager Joe Fortune at TEG Cusack Park this afternoon when goals from Niall Mitchell and Jack Gillen (two, one penalty) propelled them to a 3-15 to 1-15 victory over Kerry.
Having trailed by 2-6 to 0-6 at the break, Mikey Boyle pulled a goal back for the Kingdom midway through the second-half but Stephen Molumphy's charges couldn't make any further serious inroads in Mullingar.
Meath came away from Newbridge with a valuable 0-18 to 0-15 win against Kildare, who were without their sizeable All-Ireland club IHC winning Naas contingent.
At Ballycran, Marc Fisher scored an injury-time winning goal as Down beat Carlow 2-10 to 1-12.
Elsewhere, Donegal opened their Division 2B campaign with a comfortable 3-16 to 0-8 victory against London in Letterkenny, while Mayo and Wicklow couldn't be separated on 2-15 apiece in Ballina.
In Division 3A, Monaghan made their trip across the Channel worthwhile, beating Warwickshire 1-12 to 2-8, as Roscommon earned a 0-20 to 1-17 draw with Tyrone at Dr Hyde Park.
Meanwhile, in Division 3B, Leitrim were too strong for Lancashire at Abbotstown, 4-16 to 2-8.
