Conor Cox, and the Smith brothers, Enda and Donie, pointed the way as Roscommon heaped more misery on Meath with a hard-earned 1-15 to 1-11 Allianz Football League Division 2 victory at Pairc Tailteann this afternoon.
After a dismal 11-point defeat to Galway, Meath were left to rue another slow start which saw them trail the visitors by 1-12 to 1-3 at half-time.
Goalkeeper Harry Hogan's opening free and a goal from Matthew Costello got the Royals up and running but the Rossies, making good use of the strong winds, took control with Cathal Henaghan's 14th minute major helping to parachute them into a nine-point interval lead.
Meath supporters had to wait 11 minutes for their opening score of the second-half via substitute Eamon Wallace but they eventually fought back with seven unanswered points to reduce the deficit to three in injury-time.
However, late replacement Cox's seventh point from a free deep into added time sealed another brace of points for Anthony Cunnigham's team.
The home side's woes were compounded late on with the dismissals of manager Andy McEntee and nephew James McEntee following a melee.
Meanwhile, Shane McGuigan bagged 1-6 as Derry grabbed their second win from as many outings in the second tier at Offaly's expense - 2-13 to 0-7.
Offaly won the toss and opted to play against the wind in the first period but found themselves 1-9 to 0-2 adrift at the break.
The visitors were far more clinical than their opponents, and scored their two goals in injury-time of either half.
