Darragh Egan's tenure as manager of Wexford got off to a promising start in the Allianz Hurling League as the Model men saw off the holders and All-Ireland champions Limerick by 1-11 to 0-11 at Chadwicks Wexford Park.

The decisive moment of an entertaining tussle was Mikie Dwyer's 59th minute goal which put the hosts into a lead (1-9 to 0-11) they wouldn't surrender.

John Kiely's side had seemingly taken control of the match with points by Robbie Hanley and Gearoid Hegarty, but Egan's charges reeled off the last two scores through Conor McDonald and Conal Flood to deservedly take the opening day spoils.

Limerick had led by the minimum at the break - 0-6 to 0-7 - despite shooting ten first-half wides with the breeze - after goalkeeper Nickie Quaid made a brilliant full-length save to deny McDonald a certain goal in the 17th minute.

In today's other Division 1A clash at Pearse Stadium, Henry Shefflin's Galway made an early statement of intent as they powered past Offaly, 4-22 to 0-17.

Managed by Shefflin's Ballyhale Shamrocks clubmate Michael Fennelly, Offaly found themselves in big bother when trailing 1-12 to 0-8 at half-time after having played with the elements

Galway then made light work of the newly-promoted Faithfuls as they hit the ground running after the break, with John Fleming, Evan Niland (1-6) and Donal O'Shea hitting the net.
