Death of former Galway GAA chairman and TD Noel Treacy

An Taoiseach Micheál Martin has led to tributes to former Galway GAA chairman and Fianna Fáil TD for Galway East, Noel Treacy, who has died aged 70.
The Ballinasloe man served as a TD for the Galway East constituency from 1982 to 2011. On retiring from politics, he served five years as Galway GAA chairman up until 2016.
A former Minister of State, Noel is survived by his wife Mary, their four children and grandchildren.
"He cared deeply about his community and his country and through a lifetime of service played a significant role in making both better places to live in," Mr Martin said.
