Former Tipperary hurling manager Liam Sheedy has been appointed as the new performance coach for Monaghan’s senior footballers.

Having steered the Premier County to All-Ireland SHC victories during separate stints in 2010 and 2019, Sheedy stepped down as Tipp boss this past summer after the team’s All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Waterford.

He joins Donie Buckley in Farney men’s backroom team, with the Kerry native having linked up with manager Seamus McEnaney in the run up to the 2021 campaign.

Along with working with his native Tipp, Sheedy also had a spell with Antrim hurlers under Terence McNaughton in the past but this appointment will see him stepping into the inter-county football arena for the first time.

Monaghan lost out by a point to neighbours Tyrone in the Ulster SFC final this past season, with the Red Hands going on to defeat Kerry and Mayo to secure their fourth ever Sam Maguire Cup success.
