There was simply no stopping Monaghan’s Conor McCarthy in the first-half of the Farney men’s visit to Ballybofey this evening.
The Scotstown speed merchant hit hosts Donegal for three goals in the opening 20 minutes, giving manager Seamus McEnaney some food for thought in the process after withdrawing him last time out against Armagh.
It helped the visitors lead by 3-6 to 1-7 at the half against their opponents whom lost captain Michael Murphy to injury in the early stages.
Michael Langan pulled back a goal for Declan Bonner's men with a superb finish off his own, while Monaghan were reduced to 14 men on the eve of half-time after Conor Boyle was shown a second black card.
