Notts County centre half Michael Doyle played 72-minutes in goal following a red card on Tuesday night and thanked his GAA background for getting him through it.

Goalkeeper Sam Slocumbe was sent off after 18-minutes with Doyle taking over between the posts as Notts County had no reserve keeper on the bench.

The former Irish international helped his side to a 3-1 win over Dagenham & Redbridge in the National League.

"I played a lot of Gaelic football when I was a kid, at our local GAA club at St Marks in Tallaght,” explained the club captain and former Coventry player to BBC.

“I loved it, so thank goodness all those years of playing helped me with catching the ball and all that.”
