Limerick hurlers completed a notable double success at the RTÉ 2020 Sports Awards, as John Kiely was named Manager of the Year and Team of the Year went to his all-conquering side.

The Galbally native guided the Treaty County to a remarkable All-Ireland SHC, Munster SHC and Allianz League treble in 2020. They won every single game last season, beating Waterford 0-30 to 0-19 to secure a second Liam MacCarthy Cup title in three years.

The award winners were revealed at a special presentation televised on RTÉ One tonight, with champion boxer Katie Taylor named Sportsperson of the Year for a second time.

"It's a great honour and privilege to accept the award on behalf of my wonderful management and backroom team members who have worked so hard with the team over the last four years." Kiely told presenter Joanne Cantwell.

Accepting the Team of the Year award on behalf of the Limerick players, captain Declan Hannon said: "It was so strange [to be playing matches during the Covid-19 pandemic]. It's only now, when we look back, we are so privileged to be given that opportunity to train, meet our teammates and play the games."

There was a third Limerick winner on the night, as Junior World Downhill Mountain Bike Champion Oisin O'Callaghan was selected as the Young Sportsperson of the Year.
