Mark Troy followed in his father Jim's footsteps by lining out in goal for the Offaly minor hurlers in their Leinster championship win over Laois yesterday.
Troy saved a 38th minute penalty from Cillian Dunne and kept a clean sheet as the Faithful County prevailed by 2-18 to 0-12 in Birr to set up a quarter-final meeting with Kildare. Lochann Quinn, who's a nephew of former Birr and Offaly hurlers Adrian and Gary Cahill, top-scored for the winners with 0-14.
Lusmagh legend Jim Troy kept goal for the Offaly minors in 1977 and '78 before going on to win All-Ireland SHC medals in 1981 (as sub-goalkeeper to Damien Martin) and '85. His younger brother John also started his career as a netminder before winning All-Ireland SHC medals as a skilful attacker in 1994 and '98.
