Kildare 0-15
Laois 0-10
Adam Tyrrell scored five points as Kildare maintained their impressive recent record over Laois with a vital win in today's re-fixed encounter at MW Hire O’Moore Park.
The result ends a run of three straight defeats for Jack O'Connor's side and eases their relegation worries in an ultra-competitive Division 2 with two rounds remaining. It also leaves Laois looking nervously over their shoulders going into their remaining games against Westmeath and Fermanagh.
The Lilywhites led from pillar to post, opening up a four-point lead before Evan O'Carroll finally got the hosts on the scoreboard from a 14th minute free. But despite kicking 11 first half wides, Kildare went on to lead by 0-8 to 0-4 at the break thanks to scores from Tommy Moolick, Niall Kelly, Kevin Feely (free) and Liam Power, with Sean O'Flynn and O'Carroll (two, one free) responding for the O'Moore County.
Paddy Brophy extended Kildare's advantage after the restart before 'keeper Mark Donnellan denied Colm Murphy a goal at the other end. Laois goalkeeper Niall Corbett narrowed the gap from a long-range free, only for Kildare to grab the next four points, including three from Tyrrell.
Laois kept plugging away, but Kildare's victory was never in doubt as they now turn their thoughts to hosting Cavan in two weeks' time.
