David ‘Dotsy’ O’Callaghan has resigned himself to the fact that Con O’Callaghan won’t represent Dublin in hurling.

Twice an All-Ireland club winner with Cuala, the younger O’Callaghan again demonstrated his hurling prowess when bagging 2-3 during Sunday’s Dublin SHC quarter-final victory over Kilmacud Crokes.

Eight days earlier, the 23-year-old struck four points as Dublin defeated Kerry in the 2019 All-Ireland SFC final replay at Croke Park. A leading contender for the Footballer of the Year gong, O’Callaghan would be a huge addition to the Dublin hurling camp but his namesake – who represented the Dubs in both codes - can’t see that ever happening:

“It’s just an accepted fact that he’s with the footballers, there’s no point crying over it,” 'Dotsy' told The Irish Independent.

“His directness makes him so exciting to watch. Any time he has the ball, he’s just one of those players where you always think something is going to happen. And it does most of the time.”
