Superstitious Dublin GAA supporters will not have been best pleased by Limerick’s success at this year’s Rose of Tralee.
Sinead Flanagan took the coveted crown on Tuesday night – the third time that a Limerick Rose has been selected. On both previous occasions, Dublin were subsequently beaten in the All-Ireland final.
In 1984, Diane Hannagen was named as Limerick's first Rose of Tralee and Kerry overcame defending champions and red-hot favourites Dublin in the Sam Maguire Cup decider – 0-14 to 1-6.
Ten years later, Muirne Hurley became the second Limerick girl to win the Rose of Tralee and the Dubs fell to Down in the All-Ireland final, 1-12 to 0-13.
One suspects that the locals in Tralee were quite happy with how things worked out this week!
