Waterford defender Callum Lyons admits that to be playing regular for the county is something he didn’t envisage 12 months ago.
Lyons has started the last four games in defence for Waterford and with each game he has grown in confidence and his performances have reflected that.
Last summer, the defender was playing hurling in New York with the Galway club and he stressed to the Waterford News & Star that preparing for a NHL final was beyond his wildest dreams.
“It’s a new feeling for me. I’ve only ever been playing junior and intermediate with the club [Ballyduff Lower] and a few games at under-21 so a buzz like that is something I have dreamed of from a very young age. The work rate from the lads was unbelievable. When Mikey got sent off, it seemed to just lift us,” said Lyons.
“I could never have expected it, the last few weeks. I spent last summer in Boston and to think that nine months after that I’d be starting a league semi-final. It’s a dream come true and I’m happy to be here.”
