Clare's Peter Duggan gets away from Tom Morrissey of Limerick

Clare star Peter Duggan has revealed how he almost quit the Banner County's squad last year.

The Clooneyquin sharpshooter has just completed his seventh season with Clare and it is almost certain to earn him an All Star after some stellar performance this summer.

It's all a far cry from last winter though, as he admits he came close to picking up the phone and telling the Clare management that he was done.

"I was (close to quitting), and the year before, close on a few occasions. Over the last few years," Duggan told the Irish Independent.

"No reason, other that I was just a bit burnt out during the year, a long year. I wasn't on the panel for the Limerick game last year, and I just wasn't going great. I just found it hard to get motivated."

He added: "This is probably news to them (Clare managers Gerry O'Connor and Donal Moloney). The whole thing was that I was on the panel for so long, and never really breaking on. Obviously next year is a fresh place, and I mightn't make my place again, but it's a lot easier to go back now that I was starting."
