Varley reminds Mayo what they are missing

St. Vincent's Enda Varley holds off Eoghan McGinley of Skerries Harps

Former Mayo forward Enda Varley was on fire for St Vincent's in yesterday's Dublin SFC win over Na Fianna at Parnell Park - but he's not expecting a phone call from Stephen Rochford any time soon.

The talented forward - who transferred from his native Garrymore to the Marino outfit in 2016 - captured the headlines when contributing 1-8 to his team's winning tally of 2-17.

It was the type of display that captures the attention of county managers but the Dublin-based teacher - who was dropped from the Mayo squad in 2015 - says a return to the county colours is not on his radar.

"I've a wedding in June so I'm all right," he joked when speaking to eir Sport

The Vins are chasing a Dublin SFC three-in-a-row and the experienced 'Mossy' Quinn was full of praise for Varley's impact since joining the club.

"He has been brilliant for us the last couple of years, he has been a brilliant addition to the club, not just on the pitch but off the pitch and what he does in the dressing room.

"He makes my life easier inside as well. Teams know they have to mark because we have players who can score from different areas.

"Myself and Enda got them today [Quinn scored 1-4 against Na Fianna], but we know we have other guys who can do that, and that is what our success in the last few years has been based on."
