David 'Dotsie' O'Callaghan says he's open to a return to the Dublin senior hurling panel next season.

The 34-year-old St Mark's clubman was hampered by injury this past season but did make a return for the latter part of the capital men's campaign before they went down to Tipperary in the qualifiers.

The Dubs are currently on the lookout for a new manager following Ger Cunningham's decision to step down after the Tipp defeat and O'Callaghan says he won't be ruling out a return in 2018.

"The lads are probably sick of hearing me saying, 'I'm packing it in' or whatever," the veteran forward said at the launch of the Applegreen Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Sevens.

"It was great to get back playing this year in the couple of games. I know it didn't go too well for the team overall but it was great to get out there again and I felt I was starting to get up to a really good level coming up to the Tipperary game.

"Obviously I got to feature in that, but overall for the team it was disappointing. Look, ultimately we'll see who comes in and obviously if they want you on board.

"If I'm in a position where I have the appetite I suppose towards the end of the year and the want to do it, we'll wait and see then."
