IHC Group A: Demoted O'Mahonys open with easy win

O'Mahonys opened their bid to regain senior status with an easy win over Donaghmore-Ashbourne in this IHC Group A opener at Dunganny on Friday evening.

James Burke and Andrew Snow's charges were always in control here despite conceding the game's opening point.

A positive response yielded nine scores on the spin as well as eight wides. O'Mahonys led by 0-9 to 0-1 after 25 minutes. It was 0-9 to 0-3 at half-time.

Either side of the break, Mark Lynch's men tagged on three points without reply to trail by 0-4 to 0-9 shortly after resumption.

With Paddy Skehan's accuracy from play and placed balls, the Brews Hill outfit extended their lead.

Goals from Mikey Kelly in the 40th and 47th minutes enhanced their victory margin which was 17 points at the finish.

A Jake Regan free led to the opening goal while Jack Walsh played a big role in the build-up to the second.

Five different players registered from play for O'Mahonys while Donaghmore-Ashbourne managed just two such scores. In registering Donaghmore-Ashbourne's final point, in the 53rd minute, Conor Farrell became his side's second scorer.

David Carey, Donaghmore-Ashbourne's sole scorer in the opening-half, posted the first score of the hour from a free.

O'Mahonys responded with nine scores on the spin with David Quirke (three) and Jack Walsh (two) contributing from play. Team captain Paddy Skehan posted four from frees including a couple from inside his own half.
