A book paying tribute to the 1977-80 Roscommon team, which won four provincial titles in a row and National League honours, will be launched at three different venues across Roscommon this weekend. Proceeds from the book will go to the Pieta House charity.
The limited edition publication traces the exploits of this special group of players through interviews with players and supporters, along with 170 images.
Thirty six years has passed since a golden period for Roscommon Football ended when this team just fell short in the 1980 All-Ireland final to bring Sam Maguire to the county for the first time since 1944.
Despite that disappointment, Roscommon supporters were treated to four great years as they watched the 1977-80 team develop into one of the top footballing forces in the country and feared by many. The rich memories of that time live on and we tell the story of these Roscommon Football Legends through the eyes of those players and their loyal supporters.
Former Roscommon footballer, Seamus Hayden, will launch the book on Friday, December 9th at Hannon's Hotel, Roscommon Town, 8pm; John O'Mahony will be the special guest at the launch on Saturday, December 10th in the Hodson Bay Hotel at 8pm while Dermot Earley jnr will launch the book on Sunday, December 11thin Kilronan Castle at 6pm.
