Scotland 0-14
Ireland 0-5
Scotland were convincing winners over Ireland in this afternoon's Hurling/Shinty International at Bught Park in Inverness.
With the series having reverted to a one-off clash this year, it means Ronald Ross' men have retained their Marine Harvest title. There was some consolation for the Irish who won the U21 fixture on a 4-18 to 2-11 scoreline. However, the senior game was dominated by the hosts and sharpshooter Kevin Bartlett, who accounted for all but one of their points from placed balls.
Just as they had done in the corresponding fixture last year, the Scots frustrated the visitors with Steven MacDonald and Finlay MacRae excelling at the back and Bartlett missing nothing at the other end. Bartlett opened the scoring with his first two-pointer before Laois' Cha Dwyer levelled with two points in quick succession. However, the Irish were unable to get their noses in front with six further points from Bartlett and another from Roddy MacDonald (their only from play) leaving the Scots perched on a 0-10 to 0-3 half-time lead.
A disallowed David Reidy goal for off-side early in the second half effectively ended Ireland's hopes of staging a comeback. Dwyer was also denied a goal by goalkeeper Stuart MacDonald as the home side powered to a comfortable win.
