In one of the first county finals of the year, Middletown put Armagh SHC titles back-to-back when they powered to a 2-19 to 2-8 victory over Cú Chulainn at the Athletic Grounds on Saturday night.
A Martin Maguire goal gave Na Fianna a dream start, but a pair of Declan Coulter points and another from Corneilius Duffy had the margin down to two, 0-3 to 1-2, midway through the half. A Duffy goal and a Connor Devlin point gave the city side the lead in the 25th minute, but the champions finished the half with a flourish as points from Ryan Gaffney, Dean Gaffney and Nathan Curry, followed by a goal from the former, gave them a 2-6 to 1-4 lead at the break.
Coulter narrowed the gap on the restart, but Middletown replied with seven unanswered points, including three from Cahal Carvill, to take complete control.
Cú Chulainn were given hope when Declan Coulter scored their second goal from a 47th minute penalty, but the holders weren't to be denied as further scores from sub Paudie Lappin, Catal Carvill, Pauric Hughes and David Carvill sealed the deal.
