Armagh GAA star Kevin Dyas discusses his daily routine with John O'Brien.
Morning
What time do you get up at?
The goal is sometime between 07:00 - 07:30
How long do you sleep for?
I try to get 8 hours but it can be tricky!
What do you eat for breakfast?
Weekdays - Porridge and banana
Weekends - Turkey rashers/sausages, eggs, avocado, thins.
Do you train/exercise in the mornings?
Occasionally - depends on work and what time I go to bed the night before

I work as a Management Consultant in Dublin
Do you have a long commute to college/work?
Between 60-90 mins depending on traffic
Is it hard to balance life between college/work and being an intercounty footballer?
Yes it can be difficult, especially when busy in work. It was much easier as a student.
Mid-Morning/Afternoon
Do you go to the gym in the morning/afternoon?
Usually the afternoon
How many times a week do you go to the gym?
I have been injured for over a year so I am in it most days doing some sort of rehab or weight training
What do you do in a typical gym session?
Specific leg rehab exercises along with general upper body weights and bike sessions.
Where do you work out?
Dublin - Flyefit
Armagh - we have an excellent gym close to the Athletic Grounds
What would you eat for your lunch?
Usually some sort of meat with rice. Fruit and yogurt, vegetable soup.
What does your diet consist of? Do you have to be very careful with what you eat?
I have had to be much more careful over the last 2 years due to getting injured. I now keep track of my food intake each day, around 40% Carbs, 35% Protein and 25% Fat from good food sources. I don't have a sweet tooth so avoiding that stuff doesn't bother me.
Do you drink much water? How much?
I struggle to drink water but try to get 2-3 litres in a day.
Afternoon/Evening
What time do you get home from college/work at?
If busy in work it could be any time. If I get out of work at 17:30 and go to the gym it would be around 20:00. If I go to Armagh for training after work it would be around midnight.
What do you usually have for dinner?
Some sort of meat/fish with sweet potato or rice and vegetable soup.
What time do you have County training at?
19:45
Where do you train?
We usually train in Callanbridge or the Athletic Grounds. Some clubs have also been kind enough to let us use their pitches from time to time.
Is there anything in particular you would focus on in training yourself?
Currently I am solely focused on getting fit and back from injury. When injury free I usually work on my handling and my kick passing, basic stuff. I should probably start doing some shooting practise!
How often do you train a week?
Most days in some shape or form.
How long would a typical training session last?
Usually between 1-2 hours
Do you find it hard to motivate yourself for training sometimes?
I think most players find it difficult at times, especially during the winter, when injured or when going through tough times on or off the pitch.
Would you often treat yourself with a takeaway/Chinese or a few pints? Or does this totally have to be cut out of your diet?
I am fond of a pizza and enjoy a few jars with my mates. I've had to be a bit stricter since getting injured unfortunately.
What do you do to help take your mind of football?
I work, I spend time with my family and friends and try not to sit around the house when I have free time, out and about!
On a typical day what time would you go to bed at?
If not training in Armagh - around 10, if training in Armagh - around midnight.
