It turns out the match officials for today's All-Ireland SHC qualifier between Wexford and Offaly weren't the only ones who missed Mark Fanning's goal from a 24th minute penalty.
The Wexford goalkeeper was denied a perfect goal after his effort struck the back stanchion before rebounding out. However, referee Johnny Ryan and his umpires behind the goal failed to notice this and obviously thought the sliotar had hit the woodwork instead.
Fortunately for the GAA, the blunder had no bearing on the outcome as Wexford pulled away in the second half for a comfortable victory after trailing by two points at the break.
Speaking to RTE, Wexford manager Liam Dunne admitted that he had no idea at the time the sliotar had crossed the line.
"It was never mentioned (at half-time). I didn't know myself 'til half-time. We just got on with it. I was just pleased that we were only two points down (after playing against the wind)," he said.
"I'm pleased overall. The objective today was to get into the second round of the qualifiers and beat Offaly, and that's what we've done."
