Dublin GAA club facing eviction

A GAA club in west Dublin is facing eviction from its pitch.

Dozens of families living in Cruise Park, Tyrrelstown are facing the prospect of being made homeless following a so-called "vulture fund" deal between a developer and an investment bank, and now the local GAA club has been ordered by the developer to "cease actitvities" on the same land.

Tyrrelstown GAA chairman Charlie Cleary said members of the club, which was founded in 2009, are devastated at the news.

"We're going to have to go off it I suppose, there's nowhere for us to go. All the hard work we're after putting into the pitch, all the hard work getting the community together, that's going to be flushed down the drain," he told 98FM.

"Every single day there is activity down here. Let it be the club having activity or the school. And on a sunny Sunday afternoon there'll be kids playing and parents having barbecues on it."

While new pitches are planned for the area, they are unlikely to be developed before 2018.
