Clare GAA has been granted planning permission to erect a statue of Michael Cusack at the entrance to Cusack Park in Ennis.
The monument, which will be 2.44 metres high (including the plinth), will also feature images relating to the GAA such as a hurley, sliotar and football. The local planning authority received no objections to the application.
Born in the parish of Carran on the eastern fringe of the Burren in Co. Clare, Cusack was one of the GAA's founding fathers in 1884. Both the county grounds in Ennis and Mullingar are named after him.
