Regardless of the outcome of tomorrow's Allianz Hurling League final replay, Maurice Shanahan is already a winner this weekend after speaking in front of 3,000 people at the Pieta House Darkness into Light suicide awareness walk in Dungarvan in the early hours of the morning.
The Waterford star, who has battled depression in the past, stole the show just as he did last Sunday when he showed nerves of steel to point a last-gasp free to send the league final against Clare to a replay. Apparently, Maurice was more nervous than he would be on the pitch, but he didn't show it.
In thanking everyone who took part in last night's fundraiser, Darkness into Light Dungarvan said on its Facebook page: "In particular we give our thanks & respect to Maurice Shanahan for taking time out of an important weekend but as he said, Darkness into Light is a cause very close to his heart, & he gives inspiration & hope to so many people through his honesty & sharing. Thank you Maurice."
More than 120,000 people turned out for the annual Darkness into Light walk at various locations throughout the country.
