Galway footballers go head to head on sideline

Galway footballers Gary O'Donnell and Paul Conroy will be in opposite corners in Tuam this Saturday.

Team-mates for the Tribesmen for the past eight years, the duo will pit their wits against each other in an intriguing sideline battle.

O'Donnell's Presentation College, Athenry and Conroy's Colaiste Iognaid will contest the Connacht Colleges 'C' final at the Tuam Stars complex on Saturday afternoon.

Former Galway hurler Cathal Moore is principal at Presentation College, where current Galway hurler Padraig Brehony teaches. They are bidding for a famous hurling-football double this year.

Meanwhile, Conroy is joined on the teaching staff at Colaiste Iognaid by Galway's 1998 All-Ireland winning captain Ray Silke.

Once Saturday's match is over, O'Donnell and Conroy will be on the same side again as Galway lock horns with the Oak Leaf County in the national football league at Celtic Park on Sunday afternoon.
