Down boss Eamonn Burns has been dealt a major blow with the news that midfielder Dan Gordon will not be returning this season.

Burns confirmed to the Gaelic Life newspaper that Gordon was unable to commit to the squad this year, after having recently helped his native Loughisland to an Ulster club intermediate title at the end of 2015.

A four-time Railway Cup winner, Gordon made his debut for the Mourne County back in 2002 and was instrumental in his club's last two Down SFC victories.

There was some good news for Burns this week after Gordon's club mate Johnny Flynn made his return to the panel.
