Caolan Mooney won't be available for Down's trip to Monaghan this weekend.

The former AFL star injured his hamstring on Thursday night, just hours after featuring in Setanta Sports' NFL launch in Belfast.

He therefore missed his county's Division One opener against Donegal and will also be sidelined when Eamonn Burns takes his team to Clones on Sunday.

"Mooney wasn't selected in the 26," Burns told The Irish News. "He picked up a hamstring injury on Thursday night. So he'll be out for two to three weeks, so he'll not see any action against Monaghan."

It's bad news for Down, who have a number of other injury concerns. Arthur McConville left the action early in the second half on Saturday with a tight hamstring, while Jerome Johnston and Paul Devlin are still undergoing rehab.

Benny McArdle hasn't yet recovered after surgery; Gerard Collins, Conor Maginn and Luke Howard are all battling to get back; and nobody seems to know what's happening with either Benny Coulter or Marty Clarke.
