PJ O'Mullan can't understand how Liam Watson was overlooked by Antrim for three seasons.

The pair worked together as Loughgiel Shamrocks won the 2012 All-Ireland Club SHC title and the former didn't hesitate in bringing his former star turn back from the intercounty wilderness once he was appointed as manager of the Glensmen. 'Winker' hadn't featured at all for his county during previous manager Kevin Ryan's tenure.

"As far as I'm concerned, he's nothing to prove," O'Mullan tells The Irish News. "He wasn't asked on board under the previous regime. When I sat down and looked at who the best players were in the county, Liam Watson was one of them.

"Maybe he has a point to prove to himself, I don't know. But I think Antrim lost three great years of Liam Watson's career because he was knocking out big, big scores for Loughgiel.

"I think other players can learn from Liam Watson. He's a leader, he's a good trainer. He has his flaws but he's not the only player with flaws. But you put him in your team."
