McKeever retires from Breffni duty

Cavan's Mark McKeever

Mark McKeever has played his last game for Cavan after 13 years of service with the Breffni County.

The Gowna clubman made his championship debut for the Blues against Antrim back in 2003 and represented his county at all levels. He also represented Ireland U17s against Australia, winning Irish Player of the Series.

In April, McKeever had the honour of captaining Cavan to victory over New York in the inaugural Mick Higgins Series, which took over two games at Gaelic Park in the Bronx.

His decision to call it a day comes as he bids to recovery from a knee injury which hindered him towards the tail end of the club season.

A statement on Gowna's GFC's Facebook page stated the following:

"Mark McKeever has decided to retire from inter county football for Cavan after 13 years of service. Mark has represented Cavan at all levels and also played for Ireland U17's against Australia and won Irish player of the series. Mark will concentrate now on recovering from a knee injury and Gowna as he looks to win his fourth Senior Championship."
