Former Laois stalwart Mick Lawlor rolled back the years with a two goal salvo against nine-in-a-row chasing Portlaoise in the Laois SFC final yesterday.

The 42-year-old proved that age is just a number when using his experience to telling effect in O'Moore Park.

The veteran forward found the back of the Portlaoise net twice during the second-half as Emo came close to pulling off a shock victory.

As events transpired, Lawlor, who made his senior inter-county championship debut against Westmeath back in 1991, and his team-mates had to be content with a draw.

It finished Emo 2-9, Portlaoise 0-15 and the two sides will renew acquaintances in the replay which has been scheduled for next Saturday at 6.30pm in Portlaoise.
