Former Limerick footballer Michael Reidy is bidding for his eighth county SFC medal this weekend, but his first as player/manager.

The Dromcollogher-Broadford clubman took on the role of player/manager this year and he admitted to the Limerick Leader that it was not an easy decision as he prepares his charges for Sunday's county SFC final against Newcastle West.

Fitzgerald Park, Kilmallock will host the county final and the experienced campaigner who retired from inter-county football in 2009 knows that his charges will have to produce a performance to have a chance of winning.

"It wasn't a tough decision in that there weren't too many people putting their hands up for it. I felt I would give it a go because I felt there was another one in us and now we are one game away from that so hopefully I will be proved right," said Reidy.

"I have three very good lads on the sideline that work well together and I don't get involved on match days. I want to keep playing as long as possible so the lads look after match days."

He added: "Every year is different what's in the past is in the past. A new year is a new challenge. There is no real recipe there is just a hunger to keep playing and to be competitive."
