Donegal SHC final: Burt complete five-in-a-row

September 13, 2015

Donegal's Niall Campbell

Burt 2-7

Sean MacCumhaill's 0-12

First half goals from Ronan McDermott and Gavin McGrath proved decisive as Burt secured a five-in-a-row of Donegal senior hurling titles at Sean MacCumhaill's expense at O'Donnell Park, Letterkenny yesterday.

Burt won the corresponding fixture last year by 6-9 to 1-9, but they had to work much harder for their victory on this occasion as Lee Henderson and Ciaran Mathewson scored 0-11 between them for the challengers.

McDermott and McGrath netted in the space of two minute to help the champions to a 2-3 to 0-3 interval lead. But MacCumhaill's, who lost goalkeeper Dylan Laverty to injury at half-time, grabbed the first four points of the second half per Mattewson (three) and Henderson to reduce the deficit to the minimum.

However, a hat-trick of Niall Campbell points and one from Stephen Boyle settled Ray Durack's charges, who withstood a late rally from the Ballybofey men to retain their crown.
