Work has finally commenced on the €2.3 million redevelopment of Cusack Park in Ennis.
The diggers have moved in this week to begin demolishing the old stand. Works were due to get underway a few weeks ago, but were deferred to allow the ailing county ground to host last Thursday's sell-out Munster U21HC final between Clare and Limerick.
The works will result in the stadium's capacity being increased to 20,000, with Croke Park and the Munster Council providing the bulk of the funding.
Clare county board will have to borrow €800,000 with repayments to be made over 10 years.
