What they said ... the weekend in quotes

"It's going to be a serious game - there's a lot at stake."

Who will avoid the drop to Division 1B? All will be revealed next weekend when Brian Cody and Kilkenny renew acquaintances with Clare.

"We've been bursting ourselves trying to get results over the last few weeks. I'm just worried that we might be a bit flat next week."

The Banner and Davy Fitzgerald will be looking to turn the tables on the Cats.

"It's a strong word vindication. I wouldn't want to discredit the lads who have been left off the panel or talk about them in derogatory terms. It's not because they are off the panel that we are promoted, it's because there is a definite change in direction."

Derek McGrath and Waterford secured promotion at Wexford's expense.

"I've said all along that when we're ready to go up, we'll go up and quite clearly we're not ready to go up."

A pragmatic Liam Dunne took the Model County's six point defeat on the chin.

"We always like playing here and we get great confidence out of it."

Home comforts suit Ger Cunningham and Dublin.

"I think in the last 20 minutes, that was the difference there in the finish. They were that bit fresher and wanted it."

Dublin's greater desire was a key ingredient in their success according to Galway boss Anthony Cunningham.

"The resolve of the team is strong - even if we hadn't managed to have won the game I'd have been happy."

Eamonn O'Shea was proud of his players after they fought back from a 12 point deficit in the final 15 minutes.

"It shows what a learning curve it is for us to get back to where Tipperary are ... when they turned on the style like that in the last few minutes we just didn't handle it very well."

Defeat was a harsh lesson for Jimmy Barry-Murphy and the Rebels.

"The thing we are looking for all along is progress and I think we made progress again today."

The Laois footballers have taken five points from a possible six in their last three games under the direction of Tomas O Flatharta.

"There is a bit of confidence down at the minute and that is going to take a bit of lifting up but that is what we have to do now."

Kevin Walsh and Galway will be looking to bounce back against Connacht neighbours Roscommon next weekend.

"It was a team effort. They were lethargic and dead in the first half. But there was heart oozing through them and their tackling was superb in the second half."

Roscommon put their shoulder to the wheel in the second half to get the better of Meath and John Evans praised their team spirit.

"It's not acceptable, do officials not realise the effort players put in?"

Royal boss Mick O'Dowd felt referee Anthony Nolan didn't do his side any favours.
