Pat Spillane says the glory days of Offaly football and hurling are gone.
The Faithful County, having been relegated to Division Four of the national football league, were eliminated from the SFC at the earliest possible stage. Their hurlers, meanwhile, were hammered by Kilkenny in Leinster and face a tricky Round One Qualifier away to Antrim.
"Offaly are in freefall - don't ask me why, I cannot understand that," Kerry legend Spillane - who was on the Kingdom side famously denied the five-in-a-row by the midlanders in 1982 - told RTE.
"I know they have a promising minor team at the moment [but] there's no talent coming through
"Whether that's because of lack of development or coaching in the county, whether it's a lack of facilities, which they complain about constantly, that they have to do a lot of training sessions outside of Offaly, I don't know.
"Offaly GAA is in crisis, both in hurling and football, and it needs immediate remedial action.
"Offaly, whether in intercounty senior hurling or football, the great days, the glory days of All-Ireland success and of being a powerhouse in the GAA are gone."
