Conor McHugh has been named the Cadbury Hero of the Future 2014
Dublin U21 footballer, Conor McHugh, has today been named as the Cadbury Hero of the Future 2014.

There was stiff competition for the award with Conor beating teammate Cormac Costello, Roscommon stars Diarmuid Murtagh and Thomas Corcoran, Cavan's Michael Argue and Cork's dual-player Alan Cadogan.

Conor was selected as winner after a tough deliberation between the Cadbury Hero of the Future judges former Kerry Senior Footballer Tomás Ó Sé, former Dublin Manager Paul Caffrey and TG4 journalist Micheal Ó Domhnaill.

The judges kept a close eye on the entire Cadbury GAA Football U21 All-Ireland Championship and six nominees were named last month. Conor, who played a huge part in the winning Dublin team, was in spectacular form for the majority of the Championship with man of the match performances in the All-Ireland semi-final against Cavan and then again in the All-Ireland final against Roscommon where he racked up 1-06.

The Cadbury Hero of the Future initiative began in 2006 to recognise and highlight the skill and commitment of U21 footballers. Conor, who will no doubt be knocking on the door this summer for a place on the Dublin senior football team, will receive €1,000 in prize money and in addition, Conor's club, Na Fianna GAA Club, will also receive a grant of €1,000.
