Waterford GAA and the wider community are in mourning following the death of former Mount Sion and Waterford hurler Dickie Roche.

Dickie was in goals in the 1957 All-Ireland final when Waterford went down to Kilkenny, while he then turned his attention to refereeing for many years.

A life President of the Mount Sion club, Dickie wrote two books on the history of Waterford hurling and one on his native club.

Dickie is father of Waterford City Councillor Dick Roche and current Waterford senior hurling panellist Stephen Roche.

Removal on Wednesday, May 14th, to the Holy Family Church, Luke Wadding Street for Requiem Mass at 1pm. Burial afterwards in St Otteran's Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu to South East Radiotherapy Trust. Tweet
