Corrigan Park's last stand

May 02, 2014

The end of the road for the stand at Corrigan Park.
One of the most historic stands in Ulster GAA has been demolished.

The 60-year stand at Corrigan Park, which hosted all the major GAA games in Belfast before Casement Park was built on the Andersonstown Road in 1953, was flattened this week after being closed on health and safety grounds for the past number of years.
As our photograph shows, all that remains are a few mangled steel girders and a pile of rubble.

Corrigan Park is the home of St. John's GAC on Whiterock Road and has been earmarked for redevelopment by the club.

The news comes just a fortnight after demolition works commenced at Casement Park to signal the start of the £80 million redevelopment of the West Belfast venue.
